The Best and Safest Method
to Control Canine Respiratory Diseases

Dog owners and caregivers across the country are concerned about the emergence of the canine mystery disease, manifesting symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, nasal or eye discharge, and lethargy.  What is especially challenging is that standard antibiotics and disinfection methods have failed.  David Needle, senior veterinary pathologist at the University of New Hampshire’s Veterinary Diagnostic laboratory said, “it is most likely spread through close contact and breathing in the same air of an infected animal, similar to how COVID-19 spread.”
Shared Air Is the Problem, Not Shared Surfaces

Most disinfection methods only address surfaces and do nothing to prevent airborne transmission of respiratory viruses.  Reducing the spread of airborne pathogens is paramount for the health and well-being of dogs.  HOCl atomizing is a revolutionary approach to controlling airborne viruses, including illnesses spread through animal contact at boarding kennels, dog daycares, groomers, and other canine care facilities.  Airborne viruses pose a significant threat in such settings, making effective disinfection crucial.  HOCl atomizing has been identified as the single most effective, powerful, and the safest method for controlling airborne viruses and enhancing the overall hygiene of canine care facilities.

What is Hypochlorous?

Hypochlorous (HOCl) is a molecule composed of three natural elements, Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Chlorine, (not to be confused with chlorine bleach), straight from the Periodic Table of Elements and HOCl is also inherent to the natural immune system of every mammal.  HOCl is produced naturally in the white blood cells and is then transported to the site of injury or infection to aid in the destruction of invading pathogens, making it a biocompatible and eco-friendly disinfectant that is completely safe for animals and humans.

What is HOCl Atomizing?

HOCl atomizing refers to the process of breaking down liquid hypochlorous into tiny airborne droplets, allowing it to effectively combat airborne pathogens and neutralize contaminants on surfaces at the same time.  Upon contact with airborne viruses, HOCl quickly and easily penetrates the protective envelope of a virus, rendering that virus inactive.  Think of disinfectants and germs like magnets. When you put two magnets with the same negative charge close together, they push away.  Bacteria and chlorine bleach both have this negative charge, so they also push away from each other. But hypochlorous (HOCl) doesn’t have a charge, so it doesn’t repel pathogens. Instead, it penetrates the wall of the pathogens and breaks them down with its strong oxidizing power.  This unique ability to penetrate the cell walls of pathogens is particularly effective against a wide range of microorganisms, including canine respiratory viruses.

The atomization process transforms hypochlorous into fine droplets, which linger in the air for an extended period. This ensures that as animals congregate and pathogens become airborne, the disinfectant is readily available to neutralize these threats, providing immediate airborne disinfection.  HOCl atomizing doesn’t stop at controlling airborne viruses, it also simultaneously disinfects surfaces too. This ensures that not only is the air disinfected, but also hard-to-reach surfaces, creating a comprehensive defense against disease transmission.

Broad Pathogen-Killing Range

One of the standout features of hypochlorous is its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against a wide range of pathogens.  According to the FDA, “HOCl has the highest bactericidal activity against a broad range of microorganisms.”  In addition to bacteria, it is proven effective against viruses, fungi (airborne mold), and other pathogens, making it a versatile solution for maintaining a clean and safe environment in any animal care facility.  An article in the NIH Library of Medicine stated, “HOCl may be the disinfectant of choice” for viruses.”  As a bonus, hypochlorous quickly and effectively tackles ammonia-based odors without posing any harm to pets, humans, or the environment.

Non-Toxic and 100% Hypoallergenic

Traditional disinfectants often introduce respiratory risks due to harsh chemicals or irritating fumes.  Because hypochlorous is a natural compound these concerns are eliminated.  It provides a respiratory-friendly solution for both animals and caretakers, contributing to a healthier environment.  The natural composition of hypochlorous reduces the likelihood of adverse reactions.  Hypochlorous exists in a neutral pH range, making it gentle on the skin and mucous membranes and it doesn’t cause irritation or allergic reactions commonly associated with harsh cleaners.

Maintaining Business Operations

Incorporating Genesis + HOCL into your animal care protocols is not just about responding to existing threats, but it’s also about implementing preventive health measures.  By proactively controlling airborne viruses, facilities can reduce the risk of disease outbreaks and maintain a healthier population of animals.  HOCl atomizing can help animal care facilities remain open and operational, assuring their customers of a safer environment for their beloved pets.  Beyond its efficacy, atomized hypochlorous is an eco-friendly solution.  It breaks down into harmless components, contributing to sustainable practices in animal care facilities.

Disinfect Air and Surfaces Simultaneously

In the complex landscape of animal care, controlling airborne viruses is crucial.  HOCl atomizing provides a powerful, safe, and versatile solution.  Its ability to effectively disinfect air and surfaces simultaneously, coupled with its hypoallergenic nature and eco-friendly profile, positions it as a game-changer for elevating the standards of hygiene in animal care facilities.  Genesis + HOCL stands at the forefront of innovative solutions to provide a healthier and safer environment for the veterinary and animal care community.

Hypochlorous is:
Harmless, Optimal, and (Green) Clean

Hypochlorous, often abbreviated as HOCl, stands for 3 natural elements found on the Periodic Table of Elements:
H – Hydrogen, O – Oxygen, and Cl – Chlorine*
*not to be confused with chlorine bleach
The perfect disinfectant must be both safe for use around people, pets, and plants, and simultaneously effective in swiftly eliminating a wide range of pathogens.  Hypochlorous scores an “A+” on every point.

Its Harmless nature is attributed to its non-toxic and hypoallergenic composition, mirroring the elements found naturally in the white blood cells of every mammal.  Hypochlorous is so safe that it’s used in neonatal units

An Optimal choice, HOCl offers effective disinfection (100 times more effective than chlorine bleach) without harmful byproducts, ensuring a thorough yet gentle approach.  It’s the only product that can be safely atomized for protection against airborne pathogens.

(Green) Clean

In terms of (Green) Clean, HOCl is environmentally friendly, and breaks down into harmless components.  It is organic* in the truest sense of the word.  *being or relating to or derived from or having properties characteristic of living organisms

These qualities make HOCl an ideal and conscientious choice for various applications, promoting safety, efficacy, and environmental responsibility.

Hypochlorous is also perfect for:

  • Quickly and effectively disinfecting animal carriers and crates
  • Disinfecting surfaces, toys, and equipment, and other shared items
  • Eliminating biofilm in water bowls with only a few drops
  • Removing ammonia-based odors (pet urine)

Scientific Studies

on Hypochlorous and HOCl Atomizing

HOCl has been evaluated by regulatory agencies, healthcare institutions, professional organizations, independent laboratories, and academic institutions in more than 50 countries.

The FDA considers HOCI to be “the agent that has the highest bactericidal activity against a broad range of microorganisms.”

USDA states that HOCI can be used as a no-rinse disinfectant on fruit and vegetables, and can be used in organic production and handling.

An NIH study says, “HOCl atomizing is the best technique, with its ability to disinfect large areas by producing small, aerosolized particles to control viruses.”

HOCI is found on the EPA’s ‘List N’  meaning it’s approved to kill all strains and variants of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), and the new ‘List Q’ for killing Emerging Viral Pathogens (EVPs)

Genesis +HOCL has customers throughout the animal care industry, from Animal Hospitals, Veterinarian Offices, Kennels, Dog Day Cares, Breeders, Groomers, and pet owners for use at home.

A Few

The Genesis 2.6 is a powerful and portable tool you use as often as you choose.  It is especially appropriate for larger spaces and high traffic areas.  There is a video on the Genesis + HOCL YouTube channel showing it in use and you will see a dial that controls the solution volume and air velocity, allowing you to customize it for your particular setting.  Properly used, this portable machine is kept moving, allowing the HOCl “dry mist” to work its magic in the air and, as it settles, disinfecting surfaces, too.  For more intensive, intermittent treatment of highly contaminated areas, the Genesis 2.6 is often the preferred option.  It is also best for quickly and effortlessly disinfecting large spaces.

The Genesis UX4 is our “set it and forget it” stationary model and is a great option for continuous control of odors and airborne mold in smaller spaces.  Its interval and timer modes, as well as volume/solution controls, offer you a wide variety of combinations that provide ultimate flexibility so you can continually treat the air (and surfaces at the same time) according to your individual needs.  The UX4 is typically the best choice for homes and offices. Here is YouTube video of UX4.

For some situations, especially commercial settings, our customers may choose both units.  The Genesis 2.6 for intensive, portable hands-on treatment of large spaces or for thorough disinfection of an area after occupancy, and the UX4 set to run at a “maintenance” mode to control airborne pathogens continuously.

Thank you for your interest in Genesis + HOCL.  We hope this helps, and please contact us with any questions you may have.

Because HOCl combats virtually all viruses, bacteria, mold, and other pathogens, customers say Genesis + HOCl has become the foundation of their new standard of care and an essential component of their disinfection protocol for their facilities.

HOCl has a nearly neutral pH, making it 100x more effective than chlorine bleach. Chlorine bleach (NaOCl) has a very high pH of 11-13 and is extremely corrosive.

HOCl is naturally-based, nontoxic, hypoallergenic, and safe to use around children, pets, and plants.  Chlorine bleach has none of these qualities.

All mammals have the element Cl (chlorine) in their white blood cells, but they do not have chlorine bleach in their bodies.

New evidence suggests that breathing in micro aerosolized hypochlorous (HOCl) can be helpful in preventing and treating respiratory virus infections, including COVID. Hypochlorous is also effective at inactivating the poliovirus, which is known to be challenging to inactivate and is often used as a standard for testing antiviral properties.

Dilute HOCl solution 2:1 (2 part water to 1 part HOCl). Distilled water is highly recommended to avoid residue and build-up.

Rinse after each use by atomizing with distilled water for 10 seconds to completely flush unit.

First switch the red (air-flow) dial to the low setting, then slowly turn the blue (solution control) dial for the proper amount of HOCl solution.

Use at least 8-10 feet from surfaces (you can atomize  from more than 30 feet away). Proper atomizing produces a very fine (20-50 microns, much finer than a human hair) mist and does not overly wet surfaces.

Surfaces should feel dry to the touch almost immediately after being treated, depending on environmental humidity. There should never be soaking or puddling of solution on surfaces.

Once HOCl atomizing is complete, shut off the blue dial first to stop the flow of solution.   Allow the unit to run until solution no longer emerges.  Then pivot the nozzle upward to avoid dripping.

Shut off the red air-flow dial.

Rinsing at the end of daily use with a small amount of distilled water to remove any residual HOCl from atomizer is recommended (rinse with distilled water for 15 seconds).

Never overfill tank – always leave 1” of space, visible through side window on top for air to mix with solution properly.

Always store unit upright, with nozzle also in the upright position.
