Safety Data Sheet

HOCl is generally classified as non-toxic, non-hazardous, and safe for humans and animals when properly formulated at neutral pH. Unlike harsh disinfectants, it does not require special handling, personal protective equipment (PPE), or hazardous waste disposal.

An SDS is necessary for regulatory compliance and provides important safety, handling, and storage information, and to comply with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and GHS (Globally Harmonized System) regulations.

Is Inhaling Hypochlorous Safe?

Exploring the Health Benefits of Inhaling Aerosolized HOCl

Recent research has shed light on the remarkable potential of inhaling aerosolized hypochlorous acid (HOCl) for respiratory health. HOCl, a natural compound produced by the body's immune system, has been shown to effectively neutralize viruses, bacteria, and airborne pathogens without harming human tissues. A study published in Fortune Journals examined the biochemical and antimicrobial properties of inhaled HOCl, confirming its safety in animal models and its ability to reduce respiratory infections. With broad-spectrum antimicrobial action and a non-toxic profile, HOCl presents a promising solution for improving indoor air quality and supporting lung health. Read the full study here.

  • 100% hypoallergenic and non-toxic, our HOCl does not contain any additives, harsh chemicals, dyes, or fragrances.

  • No risk of skin, eye, or respiratory irritations, making it ideal for use around children, pets, and plants.

How Often Should I Use My Atomizer?

The frequency of use depends on your environment and disinfection needs. Since HOCl is completely safe, even with frequent use, you can confidently apply it as often as needed without any risk to people, pets, or surfaces.

For initial treatment—especially in areas with strong odors, high viral loads, or persistent contaminants—more frequent use (e.g., multiple times a day) may be beneficial to achieve a noticeable reduction in airborne and surface pathogens.

Once your environment is clean and odors are neutralized, you’ll likely find that less frequent use is sufficient for ongoing maintenance. Many users maintain a schedule of daily or every-other-day application to sustain a fresh, healthy space.

For high-traffic areas in commercial spaces, daily or multiple daily applications may be best for continuous protection. Homes and lower-traffic areas may require only periodic treatment to maintain air and surface cleanliness.

Because HOCl naturally degrades into water and salt without leaving harmful residues, it’s safe for ongoing use—ensuring a healthier, fresher environment with every application.

What Is the Coverage Area & Optimal Placement for the UX4?

The UX4 effectively covers up to 650 square feet, making it ideal for various indoor environments. For optimal performance, place it on a countertop or elevated surface to maximize airflow and ensure quicker, more even distribution.

While it can be placed in the center of a room for balanced coverage, it’s also effective when positioned near the edge of a room. If placing it on the floor, take precautions to prevent it from being accidentally knocked over.

For best results, ensure the area around the UX4 allows for unobstructed airflow, enhancing its ability to disinfect air and surfaces efficiently.

Which Unit is Right for Me?

The Genesis 2.6 is a powerful and portable tool you use as often as you choose. It is especially appropriate for larger spaces in high traffic areas. Properly used, this portable machine is kept moving, allowing the HOCl "dry mist" to work its magic in the air and, as it settles, disinfecting surfaces, too. For more intensive, intermittent treatment of highly contaminated areas, the Genesis 2.6 is often the preferred option.

The Genesis UX4 is our "set it and forget it" stationary model and is a great option for continuous control of odors and airborne mold in smaller spaces. Its interval and timer modes as well as volume/solution controls, offer you a wide variety of combinations that provide ultimate flexibility so you can continually treat the air and surfaces simultaneously, according to your individual needs.

The UX4 is typically the best choice for homes and offices. For some situations, especially commercial settings, our customers may choose both units. The Genesis 2.6 for intensive, portable, hands-on treatment of larger spaces or for thorough disinfection of an area after occupancy, and the UX4 set to run as a "maintenance mode" to control airborne pathogens continuously.

What Is the Dilution Ratio for Use in Atomizer?

Use in the Genesis 2.6 Atomizer with a 2:1 dilution ratio (water to HOCl) for maximum performance, to aggressively and quickly tackle intense airborne mold and odors in large spaces.

Use in the Genesis UX4 Stationary Atomizer with a 9:1 dilution ratio (water to HOCl). The lower dilution is recommended for the UX4, which can operate intermittently in a 'maintenance mode' to provide continual purifying and cleansing of air.
